It is impossible to detect internal failures in chimney linings and cavity wall flu linings after they have been installed. This applies to concealed duct work also.
Over the years there may have been building alterations, or structural movement that could cause the integrity of the linings to be compromised and become mis-aligned. The consequence of this is that the performance is reduced and dangerous gasses could be leaking out. This could lead to all sorts of serious consequences.
A simple thermal imaging survey will point out any failings when the unit is working under normal conditions. Remedial action after the survey could be invaluable.
